The Cal baseball team had three more players drafted Wednesday, but it's likely the Bears get at least one of them back in blue and gold next season.

Outfielder Brandon McIlwain didn't finish this season due to injury, but he made a good enough impression to get chosen in the 26th round by the Miami Marlins.

Was he flattered? You bet.

"It really has been my dream since I was little to be drafted," McIlwain said. "It was surreal."

But McIlwain, who played as a redshirt sophomore this season, said he's planning to return to Cal for another year. He suffered a foot injury in a late-April game at Oregon State and didn't return.

"I feel like I have some more time in me left at Cal," McIlwain said.

He hit .258 with two homers and eight RBI in 20 games this season, but those numbers don't do justice to the tools he showed on the diamond, including great speed and a strong throwing arm.

Cal had two junior pitchers drafted. Lefty Arman Sabouri went in the 12th round to the Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Rogelio Reyes was picked by the Minnesota Twins in the 22nd round.

That gave the Bears an impressive seven players chosen altogether in the 40-round draft, the most they've had since seven were taken in 2016. Andrew Vaughn and Korey Lee went in the first round, and Cameron Eden and Jared Horn were chosen in the sixth and seventh rounds, respectively.

Sabouri was watching a live stream of the draft at a friend's house.

"Then I heard 'Arman Sabouri' on the live stream and I just went into shock," he said.

The lefty split this season between starting as an "opener," usually throwing two to four innings, and coming out of the bullpen, where he recorded four saves.

Sabouri said he's likely to sign a contract and begin his professional career, and that he'd be ready for whatever role the Twins would have in mind for him.

Reyes, who went 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 20 relief appearances, said he's weighing his options of whether to sign or return to Cal for his senior season.

He beamed with pride when asked about being one of seven Bears drafted from this year's team.

"Those are my brothers," Reyes said. "We're always going to stay in touch. I'm just a proud brother, really."
