Biannual Honor Awarded To Multiple Bears
BERKELEY – Following a successful fall semester in the classroom, California men's water polo head coach Kirk Everist named is squad's 2019 Fall Academic Starting 7 on Thursday.
The Academic Starting 7 – awarded at the conclusion of each academic year's fall and spring semesters – consists of the top seven grade point average (GPA) holders for the semester and ranks as one of the program's most important and competitive groups.
James Parker Allen paced the Bears with a 3.78 GPA in his first fall semester following a transfer from Wagner College. Marko Valecic (3.58), Nikos Delagrammatikas (3.53) and Jasmin Kolasinac (3.43) rounded out the top four spots in the group. Miles O'Brien-Schridde (3.30) and Nikolaos Papanikolaou (3.30) were tied for fifth while Garrett Dunn (3.23) and Jack Deely (3.23) were tied for seventh, giving Cal an eight-member group from the fall.
Delagrammatikas was previously named to the 2018 Spring Academic Starting 7 and Deely earned a spot on the 2018 Fall Academic Starting 7. The six other Bears included in the group were first-time honorees.
Delagrammatikas, Valecic and O'Brien-Schridde were named to the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team earlier this month.
