STANFORD, Calif. – Two Cal women's tennis doubles teams advanced to the Monday semifinals after winning twice each on Sunday in the ITA Northwest Regional Championships at the Taube Family Tennis Center.
 
Cal's Erin Richardson and Makenna Thiel posted a big win in the round of 16, upsetting the top-seeded and 12th-ranked Angelica Blake and Connie Ma, 8-6. The two Golden Bears then advanced to Monday with an 8-3 victory over Washington's eighth-seeded Sarah-Maude Fortin and Astrid Olsen in the quarterfinals.
 
The Bears' second-seeded Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm defeated Orgon's Jo-Yee Chan and Lillian Mould, 8-3, in the round of 16, before beating the Cardinal's Valencia Xu and Sara Choy, 8-4, in the quarters.
 
Cal had three wins in the round of 16, as the fourth-seeded and 57th-ranked Valentina Ivanov and Hannah Viller Moeller bested San Jose State's Lara Marco Mas and Alba Pedrero Galindo, 8-2. But in their next match the two Bears fell to Portland's seventh-seeded Iva Zelic and Sally Pethybridge, 8-1.
 
In singles, Alsola, Wiersholm and Viller Moeller lost in the quarterfinals of the main draw. The Bears picked up a win in consolation singles, as Cami Brown beat Cal Poly's Shreya Ravilla, 6-1, 7-6(4).
 
The regional championships continue Monday, with the two Cal doubles teams playing their semifinal matches at 10:30 a.m.
