Bears Ousted In Singles On Day 1 Of NCAAs
Lechno-Wasiutynski And Silva Both Suffer Defeats
ORLANDO, Fla. - Two members of the California men's tennis team suffered singles defeats on the first day of the NCAA Singles Championship on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus.
Sophomore
Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski suffered his second collegiate defeat of the season, losing to 11th-ranked Benito Sanchez Martinez of Mississippi State 2-6, 4-6 in the round of 64.Â
Senior
Tiago Silva was the other Cal representative in the singles main draw. Silva lost to Baylor's 17th-ranked and fifth-seeded Devin Badenhorst 2-6, 1-6 in the round of 64. Silva still has a chance to continue his NCAA Championship journey, playing alongside junior
Timofey Stepanov in the doubles main draw, which begins tomorrow. They will face Middle Tennessee's Karim Al-Amin and Onrej Horak in Wednesday's opening round at a time to be determined.
