No. 15 Cal Suffers 4-1 Defeat vs. No. 21 USC
The No. 15 California Golden Bears (4-2) suffered their second loss of the season against the No. 21 USC Trojans (3-2), 4-1, in their second and final match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend, at Hellman Tennis Complex on Saturday.
To begin the match, Cal secured the doubles point after wins on court one and three. On court one,
Timofey Stepanov and
Tiago Silva won 7-6(5), while teammates
Fryderyk Lechno-Wasiutynski and
Andrea Meduri clinched the doubles point with a 7-6(3) victory. The Bears have clinched the doubles point in all six of their matches this season.Â
In singles play against the Trojans, the Bears suffered four straight losses on courts two, three, four and five.
The Bears will look to bounce back in a rematch against the Trojans next Saturday in Berkeley.
