Biography

Fall 2019: Posted a singles record of 6-3 and a doubles record of 6-4…earned a No. 54 doubles ranking with Yuta Kikuchi in the last Oracle ITA poll of the fall…Brumm won three matches (including a round of 32 result over Portland’s Leo Hibi, 7-5, 6-3) to reach the singles round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships…he partnered with Kent Hunter to produce a 5-2 doubles record that included a run to the regional quarterfinals, with the pair beating Gonzaga’s Brandon Park/Vincent Rettke, 8-6, in the round of 16 before falling in the next round…the duo also went 2-1 in Harvard’s Chowder Fest to end the fall.

Spring 2019: Posted records of 8-10 in singles and 17-17 in doubles…Brumm teamed with Yuta Kikuchi to reach the second round/round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship in Orlando, Florida…in the opening round of 32, the Bears defeated Bryant’s 76th-ranked Wilson Dong and Matt Kuhar, 6-4, 7-5…they lost to a familiar pair in Mississippi State’s third-seeded/third-ranked Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic, 6-1, 6-2, in the following round…the Cal duo compiled a 17-17 record and earned a season-high national ranking of No. 6…in the season’s penultimate doubles poll, Brumm and Kikuchi were ranked 28th, with the last Oracle ITA Rankings slated to come out on May 29…in singles, Brumm won two of his last three completed matches, topping Ben Goldberg, 6-3, 6-2, to clinch Cal’s 4-1 upset of top-seeded UCLA in the Pac-12 Championship semifinals and defeating Barny Thorold, 6-3, 6-1, in the Bears’ 4-1, NCAA-opening win over Drake.
 
Fall 2018: Was 8-4 in doubles and 4-2 in singles…partnered with Yuta Kikuchi for the first time at the ITA All-American Championships, with the newly formed pair posting two upsets on the way to the quarterfinals, with the Bears topping Mississippi State’s top-ranked Nuno Borges and Strahinja Rakic, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(5), in the round of 32 and defeating Virginia Tech’s 16th-ranked Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper, 7-6(1), 6-3, in the round of 16…at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships, Brumm reached the singles quarterfinals and with Kikuchi reached the doubles round of 16…the two Bears closed the semester by reaching the semifinals of the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships…in the latter tournament, held in Surprise, Arizona, the duo upset two more ranked opponents in N.C. State’s 15th-ranked Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic, 7-6(2), 6-3, in the round of 16 and Florida's 24th-ranked Brian Berdusco and Johannes Ingildsen, 7-5, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.

Spring 2018: Ended his first year with a 19-9 singles record (including 8-5 in dual matches and 5-2 on court six) and 9-4 doubles record…in the Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Championship, paired with Paul Barretto to upset Oklahoma State’s fourth-seeded and 38th-ranked Julian Cash and Luke Hammond, 7-6(2), ret. (inj.), to reach the quarterfinals…clinched Cal’s 4-1 win over Washington with a 7-6(4), 4-1 win over Piers Foley at court-six singles on April 20 in the Hellman Tennis Complex.

Fall 2017: Posted an 11-4 singles record and 6-2 doubles record…reached singles quarterfinal round at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships and the singles round of 32 at the Saint Francis Health System All-American Championships…beat San Francisco’s Mert Zincirli, 6-2, 6-3, to capture the consolation singles title at the Battle in the Bay Classic…paired with Jack Molloy to reach the doubles round of 16 at regionals and teamed with J.T. Nishimura to reach the doubles quarterfinals at the Battle in the Bay Classic.

Personal: Majoring in astrophysics…as a recruit, earned a final tennisrecruiting.net national ranking of No. 13 and was ranked fifth in the state of California; ranked as high as seventh nationally in 2016-17…ranked in the top 3 in the USTA in all age groups from boys 12-18… played in the 2014 Junior U.S. Open…reached the singles round of 16 at the 2016 USTA Boys 16-18 National Championships and the singles quarterfinals of the 2016 Boys 16-18 National Clay Court Championships…won several 2017 spring tournaments, including the USTA Futures 25K Pre-Qualifier in Bakersfield and the Irvine Open.
