Biography

AS A JUNIOR (2016):
- Went 7-0 with a 1.08 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched
- Drafted by the Oakland A's in the first lottery round (37th overall) of the MLB First Year Player Draft
- Had a five-start stretch in which he struck out seven or more and earned the win each time out
- Struck out season-high 10 in March 17 win at USC
- Worked a complete game in a victory over No. 3 Oregon State
- Finished the year with eight shutout innings between two appearances
- Ended his Cal career with a three-year stat line of 15 wins, 13 losses, 2.72 ERA and 185 strikeouts to 46 walks

AS A SOPHOMORE (2015):
- All Pac-12 first team selection
- Pitched for USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team in the summer
- Was 6-5 with a 2.92 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 80.0 innings
- Ranked seventh in the Pac-12 in strikeouts (74)
- Threw a complete game May 8 at Campbell with one walk and four strikeouts in 8.0 innings
- Threw 6.2 shutout innings on April 16 at UCLA to pick up the win
- Spun 7.0 innings, allowing just one run in Cal's NCAA Regional opening win against Coastal Carolina on May 29 in College Station, Texas

AS A FRESHMAN (2014):
- Was 2-8 with a 3.45 ERA and 58 strikeouts in team-high 92.2 innings
- Threw a complete game May 9 at USC with no walks and six strikeouts in 8.0 innings
- Shut out East Tennessee State Feb. 21 with 7.0 innings, two hits, three walks and eight strikeouts
- Was the Feb. 18 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after shutting out Texas Feb. 14 in college debut (6.0 innings, six hits, one walk, four strikeouts)

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL:
- A left-handed hitting, right-handed throwing pitcher/infielder from Buhach Colony High School who was the 2013 Central California Conference Player of the Year and was twice league MVP as a pitcher and shortstop
- Had 142 strikeouts as a senior in 2013, setting a school record and finishing third-best in the state
- Hit .366 as a junior with 22 runs, 37 hits, 29 RBI, eight doubles, three triples; and had a .505 slugging percentage with a .480 on-base percentage
- As a junior was 8-0 with a 1.26 ERA and four complete games on the mound
- Older brother, Jake, has played in the Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays organizations
