Biography

AS A SENIOR (2016):
- Wrapped up a standout four years in Berkeley by earning All-Pac-12 honorable mention after going 8-4 with a 3.21 ERA, 65 strikeouts, 21 walks and 15 appearances (14 starts) in a team-high 87 innings pitched.
- Chosen by the Minnesota Twins in the 13th round (393 overall) of the 2016 MLB First Year Player Draft
- Split time between Friday and Saturday duty and was the anchor of Cal's starting staff. One highlight of the season came March 25 vs. Oregon State when he struck out seven and allowed just four hits in a shutout win over the No. 3 Beavers.
- Struck out a season-high 10 on two separate occasions - Feb. 27 vs. Purdue and May 14 at Northwestern
- Got the start and earned the win with seven strong innings in head coach David Esquer's 500th career victory as Cal beat Washington State 11-5 on the final day of the regular season. 
- Finished his Cal career with a 26-11 record, 3.22 ERA, 324 innings pitch, 181 strikeouts and 78 walks. Made 62 appearances as a Golden Bear with 50 starts and four complete games.

AS A JUNIOR (2015):
- Was 6-3 with a 2.98 ERA and 41 strikeouts in a team-high 99.2 innings in 17 appearances (16 starts)
- Ranked eighth in the Pac-12 in innings pitched (99.2) and his 16 starts tied for the most in the conference
- Did not allow a single home run all season, which was best in the country
-Struck out a career-best 12 hitters in a no decision on Feb. 14 vs. Duke in his season debut
- Won March 14 vs. Oregon, pitching 8.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned), on five hits and striking out four
- Pitched a complete game shutout in a win over Campbell in game one of a doubleheader on May 9
- Pitched eight stellar innings on May 30 against Texas A&M at the College Station Regional, allowing one run on six hits, striking out three in a 2-1, though he earned a no decision

AS A SOPHOMORE (2014):
- Was 7-1 with a 3.04 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 68.0 innings
- 7-1 mark was the fifth-best single season winning percentage (.875) in school history
- Defeated Oregon in May 24 season finale (6.0 innings, five hits, two earned runs, one walk, five strikeouts)
- Threw first career complete game May 11 at USC (9.0 innings, six hits, one run, two walks, three strikeouts)
- Won April 28 at Stanford (8.0 innings, six hits, four earned runs, three walks, three strikeouts)
- Won April 19 vs. Washington (7.0 innings, five hits, one run, one walk, two strikeouts)
- Won in relief Feb. 12 vs. Texas (three strikeouts in 3.0 innings)

AS A FRESHMAN (2013):
- Became the Bears' No. 1 starter as a freshman, going 5-3 with 3.76 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 69.1 innings (14 appearances, 11 starts)
- Got a no decision May 10 vs. Arizona State with five strikeouts in 6.1 innings
- Threw a career-high 8.2 innings April 26 at Washington (no decision)
- Won April 19 vs. Washington State (6.0 innings, six hits, one run, four strikeouts)
- Got a no decision March 28 vs. USC in first night game ever at Evans Diamond (7.0 innings, six hits, two earned runs, one walk, six strikeouts)
- Won March 22 at 2013 NCAA champion UCLA (8.0 innings, five hits, one run, four walks, five strikeouts)
- Won March 15 at Utah (5.1 innings, six hits, three strikeouts)
- Won first career start March 8 vs. Fresno State (5.0 innings, three hits, no earned runs, one walk, career-high seven strikeouts)
- Won first collegiate game in relief (no hits, four strikeouts in 1.2 innings) on Feb. 15 vs. Michigan)

HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL:
- As a senior at Placer High School, the tall right-hander was 9-0 with a 1.36 ERA and 99 strikeouts, setting a school record with six consecutive complete games
- Helped lead Placer High School to the 2012 Pioneer Valley League title
- Threw a no-hitter and a one-hitter as a high school sophomore, finishing that year with a 2.26 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 59.0 innings
- Earned 2010 all-league honors and was selected his school's Male Athlete of the Year
- In the summer of 2011 was a member of the Colorado Rockies Scout Team and was selected to the All-Star Scout Team among Sacramento and Bay Area teams, as well as invited to the Rawlings NorCal World Series team for Sacramento, the Area Code Games in Stockton and the Hard 90 Showcase in Granite Bay
