BERKELEY -
Theresa Sherry, who compiled a 34-38 record as head coach of the California lacrosse team the past four years, resigned from her position Tuesday.
The Golden Bears completed the 2011 season last month with a 9-8 overall record after falling to Stanford, 20-11, in an MPSF Tournament semifinal match.
Sherry joined the Cal program as an assistant coach for the 2007 season before being elevated to head coach for the 2008 campaign. She was named the 2008 MPSF Coach of the Year after guiding the Bears to a 9-9 record and a 4-1 conference mark.
Prior to her tenure at Cal, Sherry served as an assistant coach at Amherst College for the 2006 season while also working as a television commentator for ESPNU. She was an All-American lacrosse player at Princeton, earning her bachelor's degree in anthropology in 2004.
A nationwide search for a new head coach will be conducted.
