Will guide the U.S. Olympic men’s swimming team at the 2020 Olympic Games Tokyo … Has established Cal as the premier collegiate and post-graduate men’s swimming program in the country, helming the Golden Bears since 2007 … Guided a quartet of Cal swimmers onto the current U.S. Olympic roster, including Bryce Mefford, Ryan Murphy, Andrew Seliskar and Tom Shields … Was an assistant coach for the 2016 U.S. Olympic team at the Rio Games coached six Cal swimmers to 11 Olympic medals that summer, including eight golds and an individual world record by Ryan Murphy in the 100-meter backstroke … Mentored Cal swimmers to three Olympic medals in 2012 in London, including Nathan Adrian’s individual Olympic gold in the 100-meter freestyle … Named Team USA’s head coach at the World Championships three times (2015, 2017, 2019) … Has led the Bears to four NCAA team championships (2011, 2012, 2014, 2019) and 11 consecutive top-two finishes at the NCAAs dating back to 2010 … Five-time NCAA Coach of the Year, 10-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year and the 2016 ASCA Coach of the Year … Has produced 32 individual NCAA champions and has seen 16 relays win national crowns … Has guided Cal to 129 total Pac-12 titles (85 individual, 44 relay) and six conference team championships (2011, 2012, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021) … Previously guided Maryland’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs from 2005-07 prior to arriving in Berkeley … A former assistant at powerhouse Auburn from 2002-05, helping the Tiger men’s and women’s teams capture a total of six NCAA team championships … Earned his degree in electrical engineering from UC Irvine in 1998 … Competed for the Anteaters from 1994-97 and was the 1997 Big West Conference champion in the 200-meter butterfly … He and his wife, Cathy, reside in Moraga with their son, Jack (born January 2009) and daughter, Mia (born March 2010).
