Men's Gymnastics Tops UCSB in Season-Opener

SANTA BARBARA - The Cal men's gymnastics team won its first meet of the season, beating the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos by a score of 216.90 to 197.60 last Sunday in Santa Barbara. The Bears were led by Michael Ashe and Andrew Hampy, who had all-around scores of 53.30 and 53.25, respectively. Hampy's score shattered his 52.65 career best all-around score set in 1998. Ashe dominated the pommel horse with a score of 9.75, while Hampy and Cody Moore each scored a 9.35 on the vault, also a career best for Hampy. In addition, Moore recorded the highest score on the floor at 9.30, and Hampy proved instrumental once again with a dominant performance on the rings with a score of 9.25. David Eskilden led all scorers with a 9.50 on the high bar, and junior Tal Moscovitz came away with a 9.25 on the parallel bars.
