No. 5 Cal Women's Swimming Impressive at UC Irvine Invite

IRVINE, CA - The No. 5 ranked California women's swim team (5-0) dominated the individual meet section of the UC Irvine Invitational Saturday, Jan. 8 in Irvine, CA. The Bears won six of the meet's 10 races (780 points), and in a sense won all the events as former Cal star, Marylyn Chiang, swam unattached and won the other four events (200 fly, 100 fly, 200 back, 50 free).
Senior Elli Overton was a double winner for the Bears, capturing the 200 IM (2:03.51) and 200 breast (2:15.68). Other winners for Cal included senior Nicole Omphroy in the 200 free (1:53.36), junior Haley Cope in the 100 back (57.47), freshman Staciana Stitts in the 100 breast (1:03.52) and sophomore Joscelin Yeo in the 100 free (51.53).
The Bears next action is Jan. 21 versus Arizona in a 25-meter dual meet and Jan. 22 in a regular dual meet versus Arizona State. Both dual meets are slated for 1 p.m. at Spieker Aquatics Complex on the Cal campus.
