The California women's golf team is tied for ninth after the first round of the 54-hole Edean Ihlandfeldt Invitational Monday at Sahalee Country Club. The Bears are tied with San Jose State after shooting a team score of 314.
Defending champion USC leads the 17-team field after firing a 292 on the first day of play. Pepperdine is 12 strokes off the pace in second place after shooting a 304. The tournament was delayed two and a half hours shortly after play began due to lightning.
Cal's top performance was turned in by sophomore Vikki Laing, who is tied for 21st after carding a 77. Junior Anne Walker was Cal's next-best golfer with a 78, tying her for 30th.
Stanford's Stephanie Keever and USC's Nicole Dalkas lead all individuals with an opening round two-under-par 70.
The second day of play begins Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the par-72, 5953-yard Sahalee Country Club.
