March 19, 2000

Berkeley, Calif. - The No. 5 Cal women's tennis team claimed their third victory in five days this afternoon, downing the Arkansas Razorbacks, 8-1 at a match played in Berkeley. The win keeps the Bears undefeated in non-conference play, and moves them to 11-3 overall while remaining 4-2 in Pac-10 play.

In singles, the Bears were once again without the service of senior Claire Curran who missed her third straight match due to illness. Cal managed to sweep five of the six matches with junior Anita Kurimay getting the only loss of the afternoon for the Bears on court one. Kurimay, 19-9 on the year, fell to No. 20 Chin Bee Khoo, 6-4, 6-4. The loss was only Kurimay's third in her last thirteen matches. It was an all-Australian match in the number two spot as Cal senior Amy Jensen (Brisbane, Australia), defeated Andrea Ho (Queenland, Australia), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. The win moves Jensen to 19 victories on the year tying her with Kurimay for top honors on the team.

In doubles action, the Bears pulled off a sweep capturing victories on all three courts. The tandem of Karoline Borgersen and Anita Kurimay continued their winning ways, defeating Arkansas' team of Chin Bee Khoo and Andrea Ho, 8-4. The super duo has now won six straight and 11 of their last 12 matches.

The Bears will be back in action again on March 24 when they travel to San Diego to take on San Diego State.
