No. 1 ranked Cal Women's Water Polo Defeats UC Santa Barbara, 9-7

SANTA BARBARA, CA - The No. 1 ranked California women's water polo team defeated No. 9 ranked UC Santa Barbara, 9-7, Saturday at Campus Pool in Santa Barbara.

Cal improved to 19-3 and 8-1 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play, while UCSB goes to 8-14 overall and 2-7 in the MPSF). The Bears and the Gauchos were tied 3-3 at the end of the first quarter. Cal outscored UCSB, 3-1, in the second quarter for a halftime score of 6-4. UCSB scored three times in the third quarter to lead No. 1 Cal, 7-6. Cal then scored three unanswered goals for the 9-7 victory.

The Bears were led by the scoring of sophomore Julie Arnold and freshman Laura Graham with two goals apiece. Brenna Fleener, Colette Glinkowski, Beth Irwin, Julia Cesnik and Kaliya Young also scored for Cal.

The Bears next travel to San Jose April 7-9 for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament.
