SAN JOSE, CA - The No. 2 ranked University of California women's water polo team (24-4) was outscored by No. 3 ranked Stanford, 6-4, Sunday afternoon, at the 2000 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship match at the Aquatics Center on the San Jose State campus.

The Bears, who were previously 3-0 against the Cardinal this season, fell behind Stanford, 4-1, in the first quarter. The Bears battled to get back into the match, outscoring the Cardinal, 3-2, the rest of the match, but it was it too little too late as Cal couldn't overcome the first period deficit.

The Bears were led by sophomore Brenna Fleener's two goals. Junior Beth Irwin and sophomore Julie Arnold also contributed, scoring one goal apiece.

Three Cal players were named to the MPSF All-Tournament team. Senior Colette Glinkowski and Irwin were named first team all-tournament, while junior goalie Fana Fuqua was second team all-tournament.

The Bears will next play in the National Qualifying Tournament, Apr. 21-23 at Spieker Aquatics Complex on the Cal Campus.
