TUCSON -
The California men's and women's track and field teams finished second to Arizona at the four-team Jim Click Shoot-Out Saturday at rainy and windy Drachman Stadium. The Wildcat men won with 215 points to the Golden Bears 181, while the Wildcat women won with 202 points to the Golden Bears 158. Both Cal squads defeated teams from Minnesota and Colorado.
Junior Maria Lopez turned in one of the most exciting performances for the Bears, reclaiming sole possession of the school record in the pole vault. She finished second with a mark of 12-3.5, breaking Lopez' and Leora Ward's previous record of 11-11.75. The Cal women finished first in three events - sophomore Lauren Dudugjian in the high jump (5-7), junior Reynda King in the triple jump (41-5.25) and sophomore Jennifer Joyce in the hammer (191-2).
The Cal men took top honors in six events, domination the relays and the horizontal jumps. Freshman Robert Kennedy finished first in the long jump with a mark of 24-4.25, while senior Ki Evans won the triple jump with a mark of 48-11.75. The Bears took the top four spots in the long jump and top two in the triple jump. Juniors Nate DeSomber and Garrett Collier placed first in the shot put (56-8.75) and hammer (192-10), respectively, with career-best performances.
Cal next hosts the third-annual Brutus Hamilton Memorial Invitational April 7-8 at Edwards Stadium/Goldman Field.
