No. 6 Men's Gymnastics Takes Down Stanford

BERKELEY, Calif. - Cal breezed through another victory Sunday afternoon at Haas Pavilion as it outscored Stanford University, 211.050-197.250 to stay undefeated in the 2001 campaign.

The Bears placed first in five of the six events. On the floor, the top-four scores went to Cal gymnasts as sophomore Cody Moore led the charge with a 9.250. David Eaton (8.800) and Aaron Floyd (8.850) finished second and third, respectively.

Sixth ranked Cal swept the top-three spots on three other events. On the horse, Eaton placed first scoring a 9.000 with senior Dave Eskildsen following right behind with an 8.950. Junior Suhail Arastu came in third recording an 8.800.

On the parallel bars, Moore broke the nine-point barrier with a 9.150 mark. 2000 All-American Michael Ashe led the Bears on the horizontal bars scoring a 9.050. Cal took the top-four spots on the event tallying a 35.800 to the Card's 31.800.

Stanford did finish first in the ring competition and the all-around scoring. Marshall Erwin tied a meet high of 9.250 with the second closest competitor, Cal's Brian Sano, scoring an 8.950. Junior David Durante racked up a 49.800 and sophomore Matt McLean followed with a 46.500 for the Cards as they were the only two all-around competitors at the meet.

The Bears scored their second highest meet total of the season with their score of 211.050.

Cal will be off for almost three weeks. The Bears will face a familiar foe in UC Santa Barbara Mar. 10 as they travel down state to take on the Gauchos for the fourth time this season at the UCSB Invitational.
