Women's Golf In Seventh After First Round of Pioneer Classic

MENIFEE, Calif. - California shot a season-best round of 297 to stand in seventh place after the first round of the 18-team Pioneer Electronic Bruin Classic Monday at Menefee Lakes Country Club. UCLA leads after the first round with a 291, one stroke ahead of both Pepperdine and Oklahoma.

The second round was postponed until Tuesday because of darkness. Some teams in the field had two holes left to play and will finish round two beginning at 7:30 a.m. The final round will begin at 9 a.m. in a shotgun format.

Sophomore Ria Quiazon and freshman Sarah Huarte pace the Bears after the first of three rounds with scores of 73, tying for 11th place. The 73 is a collegiate career best for Quiazon.

Nevada's Angie Yoon leads all golfers with a four-under-par 68, two strokes ahead of USC's Candie Kung and Pepperdine's Katherine Hull.
