No. 4-ranked California (10-6, 4-2 MPSF) handed No. 8-ranked Long Beach State (7-7, 0-4 MPSF) their fourth straight loss, as the Golden Bears picked up an 11-2 victory in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo match, Saturday, March 17.
Junior Brenna Fleener led all players with four goals for the Bears, while Ashley Richardson scored both goals for The Beach. Senior Beth Irwin and sophomore Laura Graham each added two goals for California as the Bears won their third match in three days.
California scored five unanswered goals to start the contest, before Richardson scored the first goal for the 49ers with 5:17 remaining in the second period.
The Bears were coming off two solid victories at San Diego State and UC Irvine. Cal downed UC Irvine, March 16, at the Crawford Athletic Complex, 11-7, after defeating San Diego State, 15-6, at the Bud Kearns Pool in San Diego, March 15. Against UC Irvine, the Bears were led by junior Julia Cesnik's three goals.
Cal will host Pacific, Saturday, March 24, at the Spieker Aquatics Complex at 12 noon.
