Cal Takes Stanford Open

Stanford - The Cal men's gymnastics team (3-0) extended its winning streak to 30 straight matches, defeating the arch-rival Cardinal (0-1) in the Stanford Open, 211.975 to 206.950. Taking third in the festivities was UC Santa Barbara (0-3), who Cal defeated for the second time in nine days. The Gauchos finished the evening with a 201.300 score.

The Bears were led by Cody Moore and Graham Ackerman. Moore, a junior, once again took the all-around, scoring a 52.500 on the evening. Moore also took first place on the vault, where he turned in an eye-popping, world class performance with a 9.550 score. He also finished third on the pommel horse with a 9.150 score. The true-freshman Ackerman turned in a near perfect performance on the floor (9.775), as well as a top-notch performance on the vault, tallying a 9.450 score.

Sophomore David Eaton tallied a 51.100 score in the all-around, finishing fourth. While he did not take any events, he finished second on the floor (9.050), fourth on the pommel (8.900) and second on the parallel bars, (8.500).

Senior Tom Kutz, the only other Cal gymnast to complete the all-around, finished fifth in the all around (50.100), which included a 8.950 score on the horizontal bar with a 8.950 score.

24-year old freshman JinJing Zhang continued to impress for the Bears, finishing in the top three in all the events in which he competed, including two first place wins. Zhang took first in the pommel horse with a 9.250 score, third at the rings (8.800) and first on the paralell bars (8.900).

The Bears take next weekend off, and are back in action at the Winter Cup challenge, on February 8-9 in Las Vegas, Nev. They return home on February 15 for a rematch against the Cardinal.
