California Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats UC Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The University of California women's water polo team defeated UC Santa Barbara by a score of 9-5 today on the UCSB campus in Santa Barbara. With the win, the Bears improve to 11-5 and extend their winning streak to four matches, and five of their last six. Cal also establishes a 5-1 record in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play.
California opened the game with a goal 16 seconds into the match, which instigated a 4-0 run by the Bears. At the end of the first half the Bears were ahead 5-2. The second half began much as the first, as the Gauchos was unable to stop the Bears. UCSB was down 8-3 at the end of the third period, as Cal scored three goals in the third.
Cal's Erika Lorenz, Julie Arnold, Cara Chlebicki, and Julie Cesnik all scored twice, and Lindy Spieker add one more. Mary Blumberg netted two goals for the Gauchos, while Ricks, Teresa Gorbett, and Lezak all recorded a single score.
The Bears will remain in SoCal to take on UCLA tomorrow at noon.
