TUCSON, Ariz. -
The University of California men's tennis team won its third conference match of the season today, defeating Arizona, 5-2, on the University of Arizona campus. With the win, the Bears improve to 15-5 (3-1 Pac-10), while Arizona drops to 8-1 (1-4) on the season.
After the Wildcats took the doubles point, 2001 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Balazs Veress took the top court to give team captain John Paul Fruttero a rest. At the second spot, freshman Conor Niland continued his impressive rookie season, dropping Whi Kim in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Cal swept through the remaining singles courts, rounding out the win with a rare singles appearance by junior Ben Miles, who performed like he lived on the sixth court, winning 7-6, 6-4 over Colin O'Grady.
The Bears will remain in the desert to take on Arizona State tomorrow at noon.
