BERKELEY, Calif. - One day after Ohio State squeaked by Air Force with a 22-20 win at the final whistle, the Buckeyes (18-3) had to face an undefeated Golden Bear side (17-0) that was coming off a 43-10 victory in the Sweet 16 on Saturday at Witter Rugby Field in Berkeley. The Bears' First XV didn't disappoint the capacity crowd in Strawberry Canyon by beating up on Ohio State 62-6. The win pits Cal in a Final 4 match, May 4 in Virginia Beach, VA, against Army, a 30-13 winner over Saint Mary's in Pool D.

Cal jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on an Alexander Houser try at the six-minute mark - a lead that the Bears would never relinquish. Ohio State drew within two, 5-3, on a penalty goal at the 12-minute mark, but Cal answered two minutes later when senior Brent Vickers took the pass from a 10m line out and ran it in for the try. A Dave Guest penalty kick, a try apiece from senior Jacob Waasdorp and junior Mike MacDonald and a pair from sophomore Kyle Khasigian rounded out the scoring as the Bears went into the break 36-6.

The Bears went on to score 26 unanswered points in the second half, including another try from Khasigian to complete his hat trick for the game. Seniors Kort Schubert, Guest, Justin Parkhurst, Jacob Waasdorp, Chris Miller, Jason Forney and Vickers played their final game on the Witter pitch, all receiving a standing ovation as they left the field for the final time.

Cal will travel to Virginia Beach, VA, Saturday May 4, to take part in the Collegiate Division I Final Four. The Bears will face Army, the winner of Pool D, in single elimination play. San Diego State and Wyoming make up the rest of the field, with the winners of the two games facing each other on Sunday, May 5, in the national championship match.
