Rhuben Williams Sets Personal Best in Hammer
May 10, 2003
University of California sophomore Rhuben Williams set a personal best throw in the hammer event at Friday's Stanford Qualifier meet, hosted by the Cardinal at Cobb Track and Angell Field. Williams' fourth-place toss of 202-7 stands as the fifth best in Cal's history.
Several other Golden Bears competed in the meet designed as a last chance effort to qualify for next weekend's Pac-10 Championships. Sophomore Randy Fair finished 10th in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:52.98, while freshman Abadir Barre and senior Craig Lee finished the 1500m in 4:00.35 and 4:03.35, respectively.
On the women's side, sophomore Danielle Navarre and senior Leora Ward tied for a third-place finish in the pole vault. Both Bears vaulted a height of 11-11.75, not quite reaching their season-best of 12-5.5. Ward and Navarre qualified for the Pac-10 Championships and NCAA regional earlier this season.
Sophomore Tamrya d'Artenay placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 166-0. Her season best was a throw of 167-7 set at last weekend's Big Meet. That mark stands as the sixth best in Cal's history.
Next up for the Bears are the Pac-10 Championships held May 17-18 in Los Angeles. USC serves as the host. Check www.calbears.com for a complete recap and results.
