RENO, Nev. - The California men's and women's cross country teams easily defeated Reno's Maximum Results Athletic Club Saturday morning in their season opener. The Golden Bear men posted a perfect score of 15, while Maximum Results finished with 60. On the women's side, Cal also decisively won 15 to 50.

Cal's Giliat Ghebray won the men's race in 10:27.9, followed immediately by eight of his teammates. Carlos Carballo, Tom Allen, Kevin Davis, Abadir Barre, Jon Balzer, Ozzie Pina, Trevor Uyemura and Eric Roberts all tied for second in 10:28.

Eight Maximum Results' runners crossed the finish line after the Cal runners in times ranging from 11:06 to 14:35.

The Bears' Abby Parker claimed top honors in the women's competition with a time of 12:17.6. Five Cal runners tied for second, recording a time of 12:18. Those individuals were Markiewicz, Pippa McDonald, Samantha Jones, Bridget Duffy and Maja Ruznic. Cal's Chloe Jarvis completed the Bears' sweep of the top seven spots in 13:05.

The five Maximum Results' athletes were clocked between 15:43 and 20:32.

Next up for the Bears is the Berkeley Firetrail Challenge dual with Saint Mary's on Saturday, Sept. 6.
