Carballo Finishes Third to Lead Cal at Aggie Open

DAVIS, Calif. - The California cross country teams sent a small contingent of runners Saturday to the annual Aggie Open.
On the men's side, senior Carlos Carballo led the way with a third-place showing over the 8000m course with a time of 25:00.20. Freshman David Torrence finished 20th in 26:41.00. Senior Tom Allen crossed the finish line in 28th-place (27:06.00).
Unattached runner Steve Laurie won the race in 24:49.10.
In the women's competition, redshirt freshman Elizabeth Mayeda paced Cal in 70th with a time of 20:31.90. Redshirt freshmen Lisa Sandoval and junior Natalie Davila were next in 100th and 101st place, respectively, clocking in at 22:52.30 and 22:55:10. Sophomore Lauren Barbieri rounded out the results for the Bears in 106th (23:52.30).
Chico State's Katie Lee won the 5000m race with a time of 18:19.90.
Up next for the Bears is the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 27.
