CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - Amit Tamir had 20 points, including six 3-pointers,
to lead California to a 88-74 victory over Oregon State Saturday night.
The Golden Bears (9-9, 5-4 Pacific 10) have won three of their last four and
extended their winning streak over the Beavers to 12 straight games.
David Lucas had 25 points for the Beavers (8-11, 2-7), losers of five
straight.
Cal went up 50-38 early in the second half on Tamir's 3-pointer. Another
Tamir 3 made it 55-40. The Beavers could not get closer than nine points.
The Golden Bears took their biggest lead of the game when Leon Powe's layup
made it 70-56. Powe also finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Tamir had 10
rebounds.
The Bears jumped out to a 24-16 lead early, but freshman Angelo Tsagarakis
hit a 3-pointer to narrow it to 24-19 for the Beavers. Tamir came back with his
own 3 to extend the margin again.
Oregon State got to within 27-26 on J.S. Nash's jumper. After Powe made one
of a pair of free throws, Tsagarakis his a 3-pointer to briefly put the Beavers
ahead 29-28.
It was short-lived, as the Bears went on a 10-4 run to close out the first
half with a 38-33 lead.
The Beavers' 12-game losing streak to Cal is their longest to any conference
opponent.
The last time the Oregon State beat the Bears was back on March 5, 1998, a
46-43 win at the Oakland Arena.
