California In Control Over Fairleigh Dickinson, 80-66

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Richard Midgley scored a career-high 28 points to
lead California past Fairleigh Dickinson 80-66 on Saturday night.
Midgley, who set a new career best for the second time in two weeks, shot
11-for-15 from the floor for the Golden Bears (4-2), including 6-for-9 on
3-pointers.
Rod Benson added 16 points for the Bears, who made a season-best 63 percent
of their shots.
Gordon Klaiber hit four 3-pointers and scored 22 points for the Knights
(1-4), who played without guard Chad Timberlake, their leading scorer.
Timberlake, who started every game last season and the first five this year,
was suspended for one game for violating a team rule. Andre Harris had 16
points and nine rebounds while making his first career start in Timberlake's
place.
Cal made a 14-5 run in the first half led by 10 points from Midgley, who hit
back-to-back 3-pointers. He has 102 3-pointers in his Cal career, passing
Lamond Murray for 10th place on the school's career list.
Fairleigh Dickinson kept it close until the Bears opened the second half
with five straight points and took a 17-point lead midway through the period.
After dropping the first of four road games on this trip, the Knights will
play at Arizona State on Monday.
