Bears open 2004 winning Pacific Coast Classic

OAKLAND, Calif. - The California men's gymnastics team opened the 2004 campaign by winning the Pacific Coast Classic Saturday over seven other teams. The Bears accumulated a score of 216.2, finishing approximately 12 points over second place finisher Stanford (203.875).

In that meet, Graham Ackerman and Michael Ashe paced the Bears, both leading Cal in two events. Ackerman cranked out a team-high 9.70 in both the floor exercise and the horizontal bars. Ashe led the squad with performances of 9.70 in the pommel horse and 9.30 in the rings.

David Eaton also did his part in the Bears victory scoring a 52.650 in the all-around and a team-high 9.10 in the parallel bars. Jay Yee made his presence felt in the vault tying Ackerman with a 9.40 performance.

Next up Cal hosts its first meet of the season at Haas Pavilion, taking on Air Force and Stanford on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
