California Head Coach Ben Braun
General comments:
"What a great effort by Arizona State. As I said, and I think all coaches know this, we knew this team was going to come in here with intensity and play hard. That's a staple of a Rob Evans-coached team. It didn't matter what we did against them in Tempe or what happened in their last game against Stanford. We knew there were going to play hard. What an effort they put on the floor today. I went over and congratulated Ike Diogu after the game. I think sometimes players need to hear comments like that. We can place too much emphasis on wins and losses. How do you not appreciate the effort he put forth tonight."
On scoring more than 80 points for the third game in a row:
"We got aggressive (in the second half). We talked about how we had to go out there and make some things happen. We had to come out with some fire. I thought we pushed the ball well on offense and on the other end we were scrappy and got some balls. Leon (Powe) really put an effort on the line and Marquise (Kately) and Dominic (McGuire) both gave us some very solid minutes out there on the wing."
On the number of foul calls:
"We had to make some adjustments. As long as the officials are consistent, that's all we can ask for. It was a physical game. So we have no gripes there. Getting to the foul line 42 times, that was big for us. Getting to the foul line and rebounding, those were goals for our team this year."
