Bears Meet UBC to Decide World Cup
March 24, 2004
BERKELEY - The Cal travels to Vancouver Friday for the away leg of its annual series with the University of British Columbia.
The Thunderbirds were victorious, 18-14, when the two teams clashed back on Feb. 21 at Witter Rugby Field. Cal needs to secure a victory by at least four points to retain the "World Cup," the trophy that honors the victor of the series.
Last year, UBC won in Berkeley, 30-17, and only needed a win in Canada to secure the series, but the Bears had other plans and pulled off a tremendous 26-12 win, enough of a point differential to keep the Cup safe in Berkeley.
At 10-1 this spring, the only blemish on Cal's record this season is the setback to UBC. Last week, the Bears defended their home turf in the California Invitational, defeating UCLA, 83-11, and Washington, 71-5.
