March 27, 2004
Seattle -
The Cal women's tennis team was knocked off by the Washington Huskies Saturday in Seattle, 4-3. The Golden Bears' record moves to 13-4 on the season and 4-2 in Pac-10 Conference play. Cal returns to the Bay Area for a showdown with the Stanford Cardinal Wednesday, March 31, at Stanford.
Cal swept doubles competition but dropped four of six singles matches without the nation's No. 1 player, Raquel Kops-Jones, who sat out her fourth straight match to nurse an ailing lower back injury.
Freshman Sasha Podkolzina picked up her second singles win since returning from a bout of mononucleosis. It was Podkolzina's eighth victory of the season overall. Nicole Havlicek also won, taking over the team lead in victories with 22.
