OJAI, Calif. -
Cal's No. 11-ranked doubles team of Balazs Veress and Patrick Briaud lost, 9-7, to UCLA's Philipp Gruendler and Luben Pampoulov in a hard-fought semifinal match Saturday in the 2004 Pac-10 Individual Championships in Ojai, Calif.
Veress and Briaud had impressive runs in this year's tournament, both individually and as a team, but fell short of reaching the finals. In singles competition, both Veress and Briaud advanced to the quarterfinals before falling, and as a team in doubles play, they reached the semifinals before losing. With the loss, the Cal men's team will not bring home a Pac-10 championship this year.
