FAIRFAX, CALIF. - The University of California men's golf team, behind the solid play of Jeff Vetterick, George Gandranata, Michael Wilson and Michael Jensen, captured the fourth annual Alister MacKenzie, hosted by Cal and played at The Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The Golden Bears finished with a three-round score of 844 (276, 281, 287), ahead of Fresno State's 847 (280, 283, 284) and Purdue's 848 (277, 277, 294). Cal was third going into Sunday's final round. The Bears had won the 2003 Alister MacKenzie Invitational as well.

Sophomore Vetterick paced the Bears, finishing tied for eighth with a three-under 210 (70, 65, 75). After shooting a career-best 65 during Monday's second round, he notched his highest collegiate finish. True freshman George Gandranata was also impressive, shooting a two-under 211 for the tournament (69, 74, 68), including hitting a hole in one of the number eight 168 par three, to finished tied for 10th. Veteran Michael Wilson, the only returnee from Cal's NCAA championship team, and sophomore Michael Jensen, both registered one-under 212's, finish tied for 17th.

Fresno State's Jon Rosa was the 2005 individual champion, shooting a three-round 205 (71, 67, 67), one better than Stanford's Rob Grube's 206 (66, 67, 73).
