The University of California men's golf team placed 14th at The Prestige, played at the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif. The Golden Bears shot a three-round score of 905 (297, 306, 302, +41). Cal was paced by sophomore Michael Jensen, who shot a 222 (75, 74, 73 - +6), tying for 28th place. UCLA captured The Prestige, shooting a four-under 860. Tim Cha from UC Irvine and Danny Zimmerman of Illinois tied for individual honors with three-under scores of 213.
Other Cal finishers were freshman George Gandranata, who tied for 44th (72, 76, 78 - 226, +10); freshman Larry Wong, who tied for 59th (77, 78, 74 - 229, +13); junior Michael Wilson, who tied for 64th (74, 79, 77 - 230, +14); and sophomore Jeff Vetterick, who tied for 79th (76, 78, 80 - 234, +18).
So far this fall, the Bears have placed fifth at the Falcon Invitational at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Spings, 14th at the Big 10/Pac-10 Challenge in Chicago, first the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. And now 14th at The Prestige. Cal will conclude its fall schedule Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at the Cordevalle Classic hosted by UCLA in San Martin, Calif.
