BERKELEY -- The sixth-ranked Cal women's swimming and diving team scored a 178-122 win over No. 5 Arizona, preserving the Bears' undefeated record (8-0, 4-0 Pac-10). In Saturday's meet at Spieker Aquatics Complex, sophomore Emily Silver, freshman Jessica Hardy and junior Erin Reilly each won two individual events. Cal won 10 of 16 events overall.

"It is a good win for us," said Cal assistant coach Whitney Hite. "Arizona is very good. You're talking about one of the top teams in the country. We came out fast, and we kept rolling. I'm pleased with how fast we swam."

It was the last home meet of the season for the Bears, and the last meet in Berkeley for four seniors - Helen Silver (back/IM), Ashley Chandler (free/fly), Kate Tiedeman (free/IM) and Tara Capsuto (diving).

Emily Silver turned in a record-breaking performance in the 50-yard freestyle. Her winning time of 22.68 broke both the Cal dual-meet record and the Spieker pool record, both which were set in 2001. The field in the 50 free included Arizona's Jenna Gresdal (second in the nation) and Lacey Nymeyer (third in the nation).

Emily Silver swam an even faster 50 in her anchor leg of the 200 free relay, clocking a 22.42 split. She also won the 100 free in 49.85.

Hardy placed first in both breaststroke events - 100 breast (1:02.25) and 200 breast (2:16.76). Reilly, who was named the Pac-10 Swimmer of the Month for December, took home two first-place finishes, winning the 200 free (1:48.27) and 500 free (4:51.83).

The loss drops Arizona to 7-2 and 4-2 in the Pac-10. Up next for the Bears is a trip to Southern California for meets against USC (Jan. 27) and UCLA (Jan. 28).
