PALO ALTO - The third-ranked Cal women's swimming and diving team completed an undefeated regular season with a 169-131 victory over No. 6 Stanford in Palo Alto, Saturday. The Golden Bears' record is now 11-0 (7-0 Pac-10).

It is the second time in three years that the Golden Bears have gone undefeated. In 2004, Cal wrapped up its perfect regular season with a thrilling victory over the Cardinal. This year is just the fourth time ever that Cal has defeated Stanford in women's swimming.

The Bears won nine of 16 events, but more important to Cal were the second-, third- and fourth-place finishes, as the Bears' depth and several lifetime-best times helped secure Saturday's win.

The 100 back was a great example. Though the Bears finished 2-3-4, the swimmers all did so in lifetime-best times: Helen Silver (2nd, 54.19), Lauren Rogers (3rd, 54.50) and Lara Pease (4th, 55.38).

Senior Ashley Chandler set a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:45.32) and followed with a first-place finish in the 500 free (4:42.71).

Junior Annie Babicz won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke races in lifetime-best times, clocking a 1:01.02 in the 100 and a 2:13.51 in the 200.

Other lifetime-best performances came from Rachel Ridgeway in the 200 fly (2nd, 1:59.00), Lauren Andrews in the 100 free (2nd, 50.79) and Lauren Rogers in the 200 back (3rd, 1:58.02).

Emily Silver won the 100 free in 50.00, Helen Silver took first in the 200 back (1:56.45), and junior Erin Reilly finished first in the 200 free (1:46.92).

Cal also won both relays, placing first in the 200 medley relay (1:41.04) thanks to Rogers, Hardy, Babicz and Helen Silver. The Bears won the 400 free relay in 3:20.73 with Reilly, Andrews, Rogers and Emily Silver.
