April 14, 2006
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -
The California Golden Bears varsity eight boat defeated Wisconsin for the second consecutive year in a dual race at Redwood Shores, Friday morning.
The Bears started out out strong, building a slight lead after 500 meters. Cal expanded its lead over the Badgers to three quarters of a boat length at the halfway marker and slowly streched the lead to a full length after 1,500 meters. The race ended with the Bears holding a slight open-water margin over Wisconsin.
"Wisconsin is the real deal," said Cal head coach Steve Gladstone. "It was a tough race and we put in a good time, beating them by 3.7 seconds."
The Bears next face Washington on April 22 at Redwood Shores. Races will begin at 9:00 a.m.
