Cal Ruggers on Both Sides as All-Americans Defeat Canada U-21

Aug. 25, 2006

Victoria, B.C. - The Collegiate All-Americans won the opening contest of a two-match series against Canada's Under-21 "A" side on Thursday, with California players figuring prominently for both sides as the Americans marched to a 40-10 victory. Cal junior hooker Chris Biller scored two tries and his senior flanker teammate Rikus Pretorius added another for the United States.

Cal players chosen for the squad who were unable to particpate included recently graduated No. 8 Andrew Lindsey, who traveled with the team but remained sidelined with a groin strain, and lock Jacob Stanfill, who did not make the trip with a knee injury. Fellow two-time All-American Louis Stanfill stood down for the contest after recently earning his second international cap of the summer as a member of the United States National Team.

Despite falling to the All-Americans by a deficit of six tries to one, Canada found the scoreboard first on Thursday thanks to the foot of Cal senior reserve flyhalf David Poettcker, whose penalty goal in the sixth minute gave the home team a brief 3-0 lead.

The two sides meet again on Saturday afternoon to complete the series at the Cowichan Rugby Club in Duncan, B.C.
