Young Reaches 1m-Final at Pac-10 Championships

California freshman Samantha Young reached the one-meter springboard final at the Pac-10 Diving Championships on Saturday with an eighth-place finish in the one-meter prelim at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatics Center. Young, a product of Shoreline, Wash., tallied a score of 244.05.
Only the top eight divers from the prelim qualified for the final.
Fellow Golden Bears freshman Stephanie Whalen was 16th (2:19.15) and freshman teammate Kristen Duffel was 23rd (155.20).
Stanford's Cassidy Krug, who won yesterday's three-meter board final, had the top score in the one-meter prelim, with a 293.15.
The one-meter final begins at 4 p.m. today.
