California head coach Ben Braun:
"I thought Stanford's first four minutes were a great first four minutes. We dug a really big hole for ourselves early in the game."
"It's a simple message to our team - sometimes you have to learn the hard way. We definitely have to make some adjustments. We have to hold teams off these numbers."
"I thought (Stanford's) Fred Washington did a good job breaking down our defense. We've got to do a better job keeping guys on the perimeter. We have to keep teams out of the paint."
"I thought Ryan Anderson was down inside many times tonight but he couldn't get a basket or a foul and it was frustrating for him."
"Jerome Randle certainly had a great game for us and did a lot to get us back in the game. I think our team did a good job seeing opportunities and making things happen in our comeback."
"Our team has to keep our head up. It's not going to get easier going out on the road. If we can get strong and regroup, we'll be better. We've got to make shots and make it tougher for teams to score."
California Players
Sophomore forward Theo Robertson
"You have to give credit to Stanford. They pounded the ball inside and they exposed our weaknesses. When they didn't get the looks they wanted, they got some big offensive rebounds."
"In the first half, after we got in the hole, we did a good job of getting back into it. They came out and shot the lights out and we didn't execute on offense. We were disappointed to come out like that, but we stuck in there and were only down six at the half, so we felt good about that."
"Jerome [Randle] did a great job stepping up for us tonight. He is capable of that every night and he's getting more confident every time out. Jerome played a great game today."
"Stanford played with more chemistry [than last time against Cal]. They played a lot more fluid and withy more rhythm. They worked the ball inside and when that didn't work, they worked it around the perimeter. Just a lot more rhythm for them tonight."
Freshman forward Ryan Anderson
"They did a great job guarding us down low. We had a similar game plan to last time, we wanted to screen and roll and try to get open looks, but our three-point shooting wasn't on. That happens sometimes. They did a great job of altering shots. They have two 7-1 guys and they alter a lot of shots and they can score. They are playing great together."
Stanford head coach Trent Johnson
"Robertson is a hard player to guard, he ready to put the ball up. Hopefully, I won't have to see Ubaka anymore. He is an exception. With this team being as undermanned as they are, they played well."
"We were determined to make everything with what we have. Again in the first half, Randle really hurt us. This is a team, and they are becoming more competitive. "
Why do you think Randle hurt you so much in the beginning of the game?
Randle is explosive. The quickest guard in any conference, he is a kid that is not afraid to make plays. He shoots the ball well, and he is a hard man to defend. He is able to stretch the defense.
Are you going to utilize the Lopez more in future games?
If they can defend. They are both learning because they need to make defensive decisions.
Does Fred Washington's aggressiveness contribute to your success?
No question. Fred always has been able to defend and he gives 110%. He is getting better all the time. This is the best he has played with his physical condition at the moment.
