DENVER, Colo. - With seven-time Olympic medalist Shannon Miller in the audience, the California Golden Bears recorded their first upset in three years, defeating No. 22 BYU, 193.875-193.800. However the Bears fell to No. 17 Denver 196.100-193.875 on Friday evening in Denver, Colo.
Sophomore Jessica Kelley led the Golden Bears in the all around for the second straight meet, finishing with a 38.975 and in second place. Kelley notched a 9.750 on the vault, 9.750 on the bars, 9.650 on the beam and 9.825 on the floor. Also in the all around was sophomore Bridgette Glass, matching her career-high of 38.900.
The Bears continued their dominance on the vault, with five gymnasts scoring a 9.750 or higher. Glass scored a team-high 9.825 on the vault.
After scoring a 49.000 on the bars in last weekend's meet, Cal almost hit that mark again recording a 48.950 on the event tonight. All six gymnasts scored a 9.750 or higher, with both junior Nicki Wells and sophomore Lydia Williams collecting a 9.825.
Wowing the judges again on the floor was senior Isabel Garcia, as she scored a 9.825 in tonight's meet. Kelley also notched a 9.825 in the event.
The Bears will continue their Colorado trip, as they face Air Force on Sunday, March 18 at 1 p.m. (MT).
