No. 7 Cal beats No. 17 Air Force in Peter Vidmar Invitational

LOS ANGELES - The No. 7 California men's gymnastics team beat No. 17 Air Force in the Peter Vidmar Invitational Thursday night. The Golden Bears defeated the Falcons, 210.450 - 192.300. With the win, Cal improved its record to 6-5, as it gets ready for its second home meet on March 10.

The Bears swept all six events. Their top event score of the night came on still rings, posting a 36.850. Junior Kyle Brady scored a new career high (9.400) to lead Cal in the event. Junior Tyler Block and senior Caleb Kirk also turned in a high scores on still rings. Block tallied a 9.150, while Kirk set a new season best with a 9.350.

Freshman Bryan Del Castillo continued to excel on floor exercise, setting a new career best on Thursday with a 9.500. Junior Tim McNeill led the way for the Bears on pommel horse, as he tied his season-best score of 9.450.

The other event Cal turned in a strong showing was on parallel bars. Junior Colin Christ tied his career best with a 9.350. He was one of three bears to score over a 9.000 in the event. Freshman Daniel Geri also scored a new career high (9.150) and McNeill turned in an even 9.000.

Cal returns to Haas Pavilion Saturday, March 10, for a dual meet against Ohio State. The competition begins at 7:30 p.m.
