TEMPE, Ariz. - The California men's tennis team lost for the third time in its last four outings on Friday. The Golden Bears fell to Arizona State, 4-3, in the Pac-10 opener. Cal dropped to 10-7 on the season.
The day started off well for the Bears as they took the doubles point. On the top court, seniors Tyler Browne and John Pettit knocked off Matt Brooklyn and Wes Miller, 8-6. Senior Daniel Sebescen and junior Ken Nakahara picked up the second doubles win against the Sun Devils. They beat T.J. Bellama and Murilo Souza, 8-5.
The doubles win was the first of two victories for Sebescen against ASU. Playing on the fourth court, Sebescen earned a straight-set victory over Bellama, 6-2, 7-6.
Freshman Kallim Stewart notched a victory on the sixth court, as he took down Souza in three sets.
Heavey and Chizever each won a set in their singles matches, but weren't able to come away victorious.
The Bears will try to get back on track tomorrow afternoon. Cal faces Arizona at 12 p.m. in Tucson, Ariz.
