SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The California women's water polo team overpowered Cal State Monterey Bay, 20-2, on Saturday morning in its first game of the NorCal Cup. The Golden Bears improve to 4-0 on the young season. Cal will next see Sonoma State at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday.

"I thought we played well on defense," Cal head coach Richard Corso said. "Our defense was solid this morning."

The Bear defense completely shut out CSUMB in the first half. Cal used the first half to build an 11-0 lead. They solidified the win with seven goals in the third period and two in the final stanza for the 20-2 victory.

Goalkeepers senior Lauren Burke had seven stops and redshirt freshman Stephanie Peckham had three.
