LOS ANGELES -
California freshman diver Kelsey Heiken finished eighth in the three-meter springboard final on Friday morning at the Trojan Diving Invitational at the USC McDonald's Swim Stadium. The Golden Bears newcomer, who won the three-meter springboard in Cal's dual-meet win over Fresno State on Nov. 5 in Berkeley, posted a score of 251.00 in the final at USC.
"As a freshman just coming out the gate, having back-to-back good performances on three-meter springboard is a great accomplishment," Cal diving coach Ben Herdt said. "For Kelsey to go top eight here, with only Arizona and Arizona State not represented here out of the Pac-10 schools that have diving, is amazing. She's gaining neat experience through the Fresno State meet to today. I'm excited to see how she does on one-meter tomorrow. It'll be her first college competition on one-meter springboard, because she sat that out against Fresno State."
USC's Victoria Ishimatsu won the three-meter title (344.00) in her home pool.
Heiken also placed eighth in the three-meter preliminary round with a score of 243.05. Cal freshman Rachel Becker was 15th in the prelim with a score of 181.70.
The two freshmen are the only Cal women competing at the meet. Neither competed in the afternoon platform competition.
The meet concludes on Saturday, Nov. 7 with the one-meter springboard. One-meter prelims are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with the final slated to start at 11:15 a.m.
