No. 5 Cal Upended by No. 10 Arizona State, 11-10

IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 5 California women's water polo lost a heartbreaking game, 11-10, to No. 10 Arizona State on Sunday morning at the Anteater Aquatics Complex in the third round of the Irvine Invitational. The Golden Bears are now 14-2 overall while the Sun Devils improve to 9-4. Cal will next play at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Cal built an early lead with four goals in the first period while ASU managed just one. The Sun Devils caught up slightly in the second quarter, bringing themselves within two, 6-4.

Arizona State controlled the game in the second period, outscoring Cal in remaining 16 minutes. However, Cal led, 9-8, heading into the final quarter but ASU broke away, scoring three goals to the Bears' 1 to take the game, 11-10.

Freshman Emily Csikos and junior Meghan Corso each had four goals while Julie Oreglia had two. Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Peckham made nine saves in goal for the Bears.
