No. 5 Cal Darts Past UC Santa Cruz, 18-3

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The No. 5 California women's water polo team dropped UC Santa Cruz, 18-3, on Saturday morning at the Colorado State Invitational. Freshman Libby McLaren set a new personal best with a team-leading three goals. Junior Meghan Corso also had three scores. The Golden Bears are now 8-0 on the season and will play two more games Saturday against Fresno Pacific and host Colorado State.

The Bears opened the first quarter scoring four goals and shutting out the Banana Slugs. UCSC got its first goal of the game in the second stanza, but it was no match for Cal's five goals of the second period.

The third quarter was slightly more even with Cal scoring three goals to Santa Cruz's one, to bring the score to 12-2. The Bears came out firing in the last quarter with six goals while allowing one Banana Slug goal, and Cal won the game, 18-3.

The Bear goalkeepers split time in goal with redshirt freshman Stephanie Peckham notching six saves and senior Lauren Burke finishing with four.
