No. 5 Cal Wins Two More Games at CSU Invite

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The No. 5 California women's water polo team defeated Fresno Pacific, 22-8, and Colorado State, 20-9. The Golden Bears improve to 10-0 overall with the win, and will play their first game Sunday at 6:30 a.m. PST. Junior Meghan Corso led the Bears against Fresno Pacific with four goals while junior Camille Hewko had four to pace Cal versus Colorado State.

In the Fresno Pacific game, the Bears built a 8-1 lead in the first quarter. They expanded upon it with seven scores in the second stanza to FPU's two, bringing the score to 15-3 at the half. Fresno Pacific came within 13 at the close of three quarters when the score was 19-6. Cal tacked on three goals in the final period to solidify the 22-8 victory.

The first quarter proved to be vital for the Bears against the host Rams with Cal leading at the end of the first quarter, 6-2. In the second and third periods, the Bears scored five goals and the Rams had two. Cal was ahead 16-6 heading into the final quarter in regulation and extended its lead with four more goals to CSU's three to bring the final score to 20-9.
